Melissa Ruigrok, MSc

Melissa joined the ProEng team as an Administration and Accounts Manager.  Melissa is a great addition to the team as she brings more than 10 years of experience in the customer service industry and in a variety of management roles.  Melissa holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s of Science in Nursing (BScN, MScN) as well as Expanded Certificates as a Nurse Practitioner and an Advanced Practice Nurse.  Melissa is currently responsible for managing all accounts payable and accounts receivable, as well as the overall financial oversight and forecasting.

Melissa also takes on many of the administration duties required by ProEng, including human resource management, and providing administrative support to the different departments. Melissa has a wealth of past experience in administrative and account management roles which include managing small business operations, managing investment properties, running and managing various independent medical clinics and home health care agencies.   Melissa was the recent recipient of a ‘Mission Honor Award’ presented by the US Ambassador to Canada, David Jacobson in recognition for selfless service beyond routine requirements.  Melissa currently sits on several boards and committees and holds various designations which will be a huge asset to the ProEng team.

Jason Alexander, P. Eng.

ProEng Consulting Inc. President and Director Jason Alexander has more than 13 years of experience in the Mechanical Engineering industry. He is a designated Consulting Engineer with extensive experience in the institutional, commercial and residential industries. With a focus on sustainable engineering solutions, Jason has specialized in the hospital and educational institutional industry with multiple successful projects including research, surgical, clean room, educational, acute care and outpatient facilities, and clinics. Jason is proficient in project engineering and financial management, engineering concept and design including integrated building design, engineering calculation and simulation, and construction management and commissioning.  His mechanical system knowledge includes fire protection systems, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and controls systems (HVAC), and sustainable systems such as waste water reclaim, solar water heating and energy recovery systems.

Michal Lachowicz, P. Eng.

Michal is a Licensed Professional Engineer and Senior Partner with ProEng Consulting Inc. with more than 7 years of experience in engineering design in Ottawa and Edmonton. He offers significant experience in project management, design development and construction contract administration of electrical and mechanical systems in residential, commercial and industrial buildings. Michal’s academic background was focused on the biomedical application of electrical engineering to health and medicine. He is skilled at assessing project needs and identifying and defining project feasibility. A resourceful approach towards concept and design development make Michal a valuable team asset during collaborative design exercises involving inter-disciplinary fields. Michal has been involved in the design and execution of over 135 construction projects Provinces of Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia. Michal has a keen interest for and offers vast experience in lighting modeling and design.

Michal Lachowicz,

Mr. Lachowicz is a Senior Partner and the Electrical Unit Business Director of ProEng Consulting Inc. He is a licensed professional engineer with a broad construction background in both private and public sectors. Having designed mechanical and electrical projects in the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario, he brings a wealth of design and construction experience to ProEng focusing on strategic planning and implementation of company protocol and standards.

Having direct involvement in the design of over 135 construction projects, Mr. Lachowicz spent the last six years in the electrical engineering design of over 80 construction projects in the National Capital Region. His key focus remained in the design of power, lighting and life safety systems for commercial, educational and residential buildings including research, clean room, educational, and surgical facilities. He is a current member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO), the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), and the Illuminating Engineers Society (IES).

Mr. Lachowicz is a graduate of the University of Alberta and holds a B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Option. While his academic background focused heavily on the biomedical application of electrical engineering to health and medicine, his professional career offers significant experience in project management, design development and construction contract administration. Mr. Lachowicz’s firsthand knowledge and understanding of mechanical systems, coupled with strong and effective interpersonal skills, brings a resourceful approach towards the direction and leadership of the ProEng Electrical Unit, and, its integration into the collaborative design process of infrastructure projects.

Jason Alexander,

Mr. Alexander is the President and Director of ProEng Consulting Inc. As a designated Consulting Engineer he has extensive experience in institutional, commercial and residential industries having spent over 13 years in the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning industry.  His broad engineering background brings valuable insight in guiding ProEng in current and emerging business operations.

Mr. Alexander spent the last 13 years working with a variety of small local engineering firms, as well as large national and international professional services corporations.  He has a broad knowledge and understanding of the various business types and models in the industry.  Mr. Alexander has a wealth of experience in hospital and educational/institutional industries with multiple successful projects including surgical suites, clean rooms, laboratories, educational facilities, acute care and outpatient facilities/clinics many with a focus on sustainable engineering solutions.

Engineering activities include, conceptual design, integrated building design, engineering calculation, simulation and system commissioning. Mechanical systems knowledge of fire protection systems, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, ventilation and controls systems including sustainable energy systems such as waste water reclaim, solar water heating and energy recovery systems. Mr. Alexander’s strong knowledge of project engineering, financial management, construction management and budget control are a valuable asset to the board in establishing a direction to the company.

Mr. Alexander holds a B.A.Sc degree from the University of Ottawa in mechanical engineering.  He is a past president of the local American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Ottawa chapter having served on various committees for over two years as well as served on the ASHRAE board for over 6 years. He is a current member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO), the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) and the Consulting Engineers of Ontario and is professionally licensed in the provinces of Ontario and Alberta.

Charles Ruigrok, BESc, M.Eng., ICD.D, P.Eng.

Mr. Ruigrok is a retired energy industry executive and a corporate director.  His energy industry experience includes a 26-year career with Imperial Oil which included diverse assignments in operations, project management, R&D, business planning and natural gas marketing.  He has broad management experience in the energy industry and offers expertise in manufacturing operations and major project engineering, as well as in construction management.

He served as the CEO of Syncrude Canada from December 2003 through August 2007, and as the Interim President and CEO of ENMAX Corporation from February 2011 to April 2012.  Prior to serving as CEO of Syncrude Canada Ltd., Mr. Ruigrok served as Vice President of Oil Sands Development and Research at Imperial Oil, where he was responsible for developing Imperial Oil’s extensive oil sands asset portfolio, including its Cold Lake operation and 25 per cent interest in Syncrude.

Mr. Ruigrok is a member of the Board of Directors of ENMAX Corporation and Soane Energy LLC.  He is also a past director of Syncrude Canada Ltd, Rainbow Pipeline Company, Progas Limited, the Alberta Chamber of Resources, and Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada, as well as having served as a member of the Board of Governors of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers.

Mr. Ruigrok holds a BESc and a M.Eng. in Civil Engineering from the University of Western Ontario, and is a member of Professional Engineers Ontario and the Institute of Corporate Directors.
